Tour De Fleece 2013 - day 1 and 2

Yup long title.

Saturday I got in some spinning on my TTT Turkish spindle with my Estonian wool by Kaunai on Etsy (linky later!)

We went to Stuart for gaming night and I brought my Tina's Angoras Tibetan spindle with her tea cup bowl. And the Evil Queen roving by Storied Yarns.

Sunday! I spun more on the Turkish while watching doctor who with kaeley, ash grey pencil roving while watching The Fires of Pompeii. But I didn't get a picture.

After breakfast we wandered around downtown and fed the fishes. We got rained out /sigh

Then I pulled Clotho out of her hiding spot (the closet!) and worked on my Storied Yarns merino pencil roving in Finnick. I'm hoping to get that all finished up tomorrow.

I joined Instagram yesterday, it's actually great for sharing pictures (sandi!) I'd been avoiding it because it was trendy. Now I don't care so much.

Naner

Today is cook something Wednesday, or whatever /shrug

We made double chocolate chip banana bread

Recipe!

3 over-ripe (brown!) bananas
2 eggs
1.5 cup flour
1 cup sugar
1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
1/2 cup cocoa powder
1/3 cup vegetable oil
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 Tbsp vanilla extract
1/2 tsp salt

Preheat oven to 350 degrees

Mix sugar, eggs and oil in a bowl on low. Add bananas and vanilla, mix until blended. Combine dry ingredients in a separate bowl and add slowly, it's ridiculously messy otherwise! Using a spoon fold in the chocolate chips.

The recipe says to spoon this into a 8x4 bread pan, I sprayed mine with non stick spray and poured it in, scraping the sides to get all the batter.

Bake this 60-70 minutes. Let stand 10.

This freezes SUPER well, and everyone loves it, even me, and I loathe bananas.

Make it Monday

Today we knitted. Because I don't do that anyway lol

I finished the first panel of a baby blanket Gail and I are working on together for a mutual friend.

And kae is using the long blue knifty knitter loom to make a scrap blanket for herself. She's using odds and ends of my red heart. So far we're on lavender

Library Adventure

Today was library day!
My favorite day of the week.

I have a pin on my summer camp board about library mini adventures. It's hard because Connor isn't quite old enough for the "sit still" adventures yet. But we did a little hunt.

First kaeley walked around and found the biggest book. It took some prompting, like "do you think the biggest book would be fiction or non-fiction?" And then she had to lead us to the section.

The biggest book

The smallest book didn't take any prompting, she went straight for the baby cardboard books.

Curious George, the curious little monkey. ::sing::

Kaeley would have checked out every book on dinosaurs they had if I would have carried them for her. I've decided that if she complains about how heavy her bag is, she has to put some back. New rule!

She couldn't even wait to get home to start reading.

Science Museum

Yesterday was Father's Day! Ross is a super daddy, he loves spending time with his kids.

The day wasn't as smooth as I would have liked, I had to use 2 hours in the morning grocery shopping. But we had fun!

We had to choose between the palm beach zoo and the science museum. Because it was hotter than the surface of the sun out, we went to the museum!

The exhibit was aquatic dinosaurs, which made kae really super excited! They also have an aquarium there, which I didn't know about! And a real mummy. Very cool.

Knit In Public

Saturday June 15th we had our annual knit in public event!

We met at John Prince Park in lake worth.

My mom came! Omg ;)
She learned to crochet, it was so nice if Mary to teach her.

We even had some Girl Scouts come :D
A brownie and an ambassador. So no one earned the textile patch, but it was great.

We also collected a bunch of food for our food drive!

Wednesday Bakin

Today is What's Cookin Wednesday!
I got kaeley some sugar cookie pouches (yup that's right, instant cookies) before school got out.

So she measured all the ingredients, mixed it up, and got flour freaking everywhere so we could roll them.

Kae chose our Squirrel and Llama cookie cutters.

She also got to put the tray in the oven

And then (of course) had to eat one

She looks kinda deranged with the missing squirrel head

Swimming

Right before school got out, kae was invited to a pool party. We let her go because it was here in our own community pool. Turns out we had a kid in her class living right under our nose. And no one told us, go figure.

I had to go home for a minute because Ross was having issues with Connor. The mom said go ahead I'll watch her. I trusted this mom. Totally shouldn't have.

When I came back kae was being abandoned by the other girls, trying desperately to swim after them to the deep end. And she started to drown.

This other mom was so busy talking to her friend that I had to jump in the water, in my clothes (because I couldn't find my suit before we left for the day). We didn't stay long after that.

So we decided kae needed real swimming lessons. She didn't listen to us. So I signed her up for them at the burns road aquatic center.

She had a great time, and she's excited to use what she's learned ;)

Knit In Public

This week is knit in public week, typically we do a week long scavenger hunt with prizes.

This year we've decided to try something different (again)! We're hosting a single day event.

Where : John Prince Park in Lake Worth, Fl
When : Saturday June 15, from 10-2
Cost : a nonperishable canned good

All food donations are going to CROS ministries of South Florida. The donation with earn a raffle ticket.

The tickets can be spent on prize raffles:

Among others I don't have pictures of yet!

Bit that my blog has a ton of readers, but I though I'd put it out there ;)

Sending Hugs

Keeping the kids busy for summer is really REALLY important.

They will drive me insane. That would be bad.

So we set up a schedule.

Make Something Monday
Time to Read Tuesday
What's Cooking Wednesday
Be Thoughtful Thursday
Fun Day Friday

The weekends are daddy time, and he gets to occupy them!

We also made a poster of all the stuff we said we'd do this summer. From picking our own food to the water park. It also includes completing the reading programs and Kae's swimming lessons. It gives her some power, and holds me accountable.

Today is Monday! I let kae spelunk my Summer Camp Pinterest board and pick a craft project. She decided we should make and send hugs to the grandparents.

So we started with Kae's hugs

After nap I got Connor's! Though I couldn't get a picture, too much lime green paint everywhere.

We'll put them in the mail tomorrow along with a poem kae is going to copy. Even the local g-parents. Non-Bill mail is always nice 😍

Last Day of School

Today was Kae's last day of school.

Her last day at Marsh Pointe.

I went back and reread my blog posts about the school, when I toured the school before she started kindergarten.

I still love all those things. The school pitself is great. There are so many opportunities for kids there that a lot of other elementary schools don't have. Or can't afford.

I am a little sad to see kae move on. I wanted her to be able to start band in 3rd grade. And Kae's guidance counselor is a phenomenal woman, who made a huge difference in Kae's life.

But I hate these pretentious parents. I hate that kae will have to be in the same class, with the same kids.

So we're moving on!

Kae got off the bus

And we had a silly string fight!

Pink for her, purple for me!

Summer starts now. No more of the drama or hurt for either of us, I couldn't be happier.

May reading list

I'm a slacker

I'm late putting my list up. I'm behind on all my reading goals. And I only read 3 books last month.

Fairy Tale - Cyn Balog - ugh. I like her other dystopian fae series. This was just ugh though

Mistwood - Lea Cypess - really good, definitely will read the next one. Full on fantasy novel.

Every Other Day - Jennifer Lynn Barnes - I like this authors other series, Raised By Wolves, this is TOTALLY NOT LIKE THAT, though not bad, 4/5.
